Who are You? or Who am I?
Let’s start right at the very beginning with an exercise that you can use to stir up empowering emotions and push you forward as you set out to achieve what you really want out of life, and to have a completely fulfilling existence.
The question is Who Are You?
Who are you right now?
Describe your life in detail. Write down what you have achieved and what you have been successful at in the past. Write down where you live and what you own.
Who will you become in the future?
What kind of person do you aspire to become. What do you want to do, where do you want to go and who do you want to go with.
Where do you want to live and what possessions do you want to own. What do you really want to achieve with your life.
When you have completed these two short exercises ask yourself the question; If I continue the way in which I am heading what will I get?, Where will I go?, What will I achieve? Who will I become?
Will you be happy with what you see in your projected outcome?
If not then the right time to start making changes is now.

In the mind’s eye
Do you have a mental picture of yourself in your mind as you would be if you were really living life how you want it to be? Most people do build this image over time.
For example someone that has put on weight will quite often have a clear picture of themselves as they would be if they were slim and healthy.
They would see what they were wearing, who they were with and what they were doing. This exercise gives you the opportunity to take a good look at yourself.
Take some time to go through an easy exercise and view yourself in your minds eye.
Take notes, there is no rush and you can take many days to complete this exercise, it will evolve into something that can tell you a lot about the ‘real you’ and what you really want to achieve within your life.
If you are really honest with yourself as you take an active part in this exercise you will discover a great deal about yourself.
You will also re-discover a whole range of things that will offer you valuable reminders as to what you once thought life would be like and how you wanted life to work out for you.
An important factor here though is that The Past is Gone. Who you are is not the same as who you can become. You can’t affect the past, so don’t live in the past. You can though have a profound effect on your future, starting................................Now!
Note: The Who are you? exercise is not about goal planning, but you will discover that by answering the question who are you? in detail that when you get to goal planning exercise that you will be a lot clearer about what you want out of life.
I didn't think it would be like this!
(This exercise is not strictly NLP, but it is Dynamic! It is an absolutely brilliant place to start in your journey of change, fulfilment and discovery. Creative visualization should be fun! Enjoy this exercise and discover more about who you are)
My friend had recently celebrated his fortieth birthday. He phoned me and asked me if he could attend the ‘quit smoking’ class.
During the conversation he said something very interesting, and I knew that what he said was going to help him a great deal if he was successfully going to quit smoking.
“I can’t continue like this anymore, I didn’t think it would be like this, it isn’t how I saw it working out”
“What did you see and where did you see it?” I asked him
“I saw it in my mind’s eye, the real me, it’s been there for years”
“Can we expand on this?” I asked. I wanted to know was exactly what he saw.
He explained everything in detail. In his mind’s eye he had seen himself as a healthy non-smoker, and that was just the start of it! He had seen himself being, slim, toned and athletic, in his opinion he was about 6 stones away from being the man in the mind’s eye.
I asked him to list ten items that were more in suiting to the man in the mind’s eye. He very quickly rattled off a list, I am sure he could have said a whole lot more.
Introducing the Man In The Mind's Eye
The man in the mind’s eye would never smoke cigarettes
He is slim and physically fit because he eats healthy nutritious foods and he takes plenty of regular exercise.
He is well groomed, he always looks clean, smart and presentable.
My friend saw the man in his mind’s as being ‘attractive’ and ‘healthy’ looking.
The man in the mind’s eye would never work the hours that he was working.
He would never waste money.
My friend was single but he did explain in detail what he expected his wife to look like!
The man in the mind’s eye was ‘in control’ of his life and his destiny.
He was kind and generous
Finally he said “He Looks Content with his life”.
I don’t think my friend wanted to make changes because he had hit forty, I don’t think it was boredom, what I do think is that he was seriously discontent with his life. It was great that he had opened up to me, he had really made it a lot easier for me to help him. I asked him to make some very comprehensive notes with regard to the man in his mind’s eye. The next time I saw him wasn’t just to help him quit smoking, we were able to plan an incredibly exciting future for him. He was motivated from the word GO! Now it’s your turn to play..........Who are you?
Who Are You?
In your mind’s eye do have you have a mental picture of how you thought it would all work out?
Using a note pad or go to the
Who are you? page in your Dynamic NLP Daily Journal and take some time, as much time as you like, a day, a week, as long as it takes you to discover the real you again.
In your mind’s eye what do you look like?
What clothes do you look good in?
Where do you live?
Describe your house?
What work do you do?
Write down as much as you can. See if you can re-discover any old thoughts, have you let go of some of your dreams and desires?
When you have completed this exercise it is time for you to start enjoying yourself as you begin to master the NLP Swish!
